Cell Phone Policy

Calera Public School – New Cell Phone Policy

In accordance with Oklahoma State Bill 139 (SB 139), Calera Public School will be adjusting our cell phone policy.

Per state law, all cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and other personal electronic devices are banned from “Bell to Bell.”

Bell to Bell” means from the first bell at the start of instruction until the dismissal bell at the end of the school day.

If you need to communicate with a student during the school day, please contact the elementary, middle school, or high school office directly.

What this means:

  • Students may bring phones or devices to school, but they must remain powered off and out of sight for the entire school day, including passing periods and lunch.
  • Smartwatches must also be powered off, stored, and not used during the school day.
  • Earbuds and headphones may not be used for personal use during school hours.

PK–8th grade students will continue to follow their existing policy.

High school students must keep all devices put away from the first bell until the final bell.

  • Any violations will result in the electronic device being confiscated and held in the office until the end of the school day.
  • Consequences will follow the student handbook, which may include lunch detention, in-school detention, and suspension, depending on the number of offenses.

Thank you for your cooperation as we implement this state-mandated policy.
